DIY floral crowns >>

 +++

 What better way to celebrate the beginnings of warm weather than with diy-ing floral crowns :) I've worn these in the past but always ached to make my own creation.  This project was surprisingly suuuuper easy & very pretty, duh. Sure to be the first of many more floral crown experiments in the future !

>> Supplies :

+ faux flowers -- Mar & I bought a branch with small white flowers & one with purple - {2.99 each}
+ floral wire (green) -  {99cents!}
+ covered wire (brown) - 4$ {2$ w/ our coupon}
+ wire cutting pliers - { pack of 3, w/ coupon - 5$}

----------
>> Directions -- >>

I. size covered wire to head by wrapping around comfortably with enough space to tie together -- the wire is fairly strong on its own, so we wrapped the ends around the base of the crown and secured by wrapping a bit of floral wire around the end bits
II. cut off the small flowers from the bigger branch, leaving a little bit of stem on each
III. cut off a small portion of the floral wire (green) -- about an inch or two
IV. arrange flower whichever angle [we alternated] and slowly wrap floral wire around the stem of the flower as well as the base of the crown
V. repeat repeat & enjoy!

feel good music

You know how there's certain songs or artists that you play when youre in need of a "feel good" moment? I know i have a list of these songs that if i ever used a song as an alarm clock, i would use these so as to wake up in the morning on a positive note. One of these such songs & artists is Melbourne's Vance Joy and in particular, his song Riptide. My lovely friend Bonnie introduced us all to this song/artist (among others) while we were in London. It became one of our many anthems of the semester, constantly playing it on repeat every night before going out. I called it our shoulder-bopping song cos that's all we did if we weren't getting up and twirling like idiots. Bonnie sent me a photo of her & him last night and i was like, huh, i haven't listened to that song in awhile, (excuse me as i have Macklemore's The Heist in my car for the past four months now,) so i put it on this morning & fell instantly back into our wonderful nights in London shoulder-bopping and feeling good.

on that juicin' swag

The past few days I've busted out my mum's old blender & started on the smoothie juicin' craze. Most of the time we hear about juicing in the form of a cleanse, where you only drink these smoothies. I'm not about that--i like real food too much. BUT i am all about healthiness and general feel-good-ness that comes from juicing-- so i've added it into my diet instead of substituting. Lately, i've been adding it in as a snack late-afternoon or after dinner if im still hungry. I think its a great (& yummy) way to incorporate a bunch of fruits & veggies without thinking youre eating fruits & veggies.
Here are three combinations i've tried this week:

// Recipe I -- >>
// Borrowed from the Free People Blog, i mixed:
kale, cucumber,
pear, and pear juice

// Recipe II -- >>
// banana, strawberries, apples,
cucumber & kale,
mixed with water & a bit of chocolate almond milk

// Recipe III -- >>
// strawberries, banana, apple, kiwi
kale, cucumber
chocolate almond milk, & vanilla greek yogurt

+++ Recipe III was probably the yummiest in my opinion. I think it was the introduction of the greek yogurt! It made everything seem more creamy and solid in taste and texture.

Chi town

This weekend was lovely because I got to be with friends in Chicago! I was there for a few days helping my best friend move into her house in August but havent been out and about in Chicago since April of 2011, so I was super pumped to roam the windy city. Celebrating St Pattys Day in another city was also way cool. It was so nice to be with friends and meet new ones. I love exploring new places and this weekend was no different. Cant wait to try to visit in the summerime when its warmer! Here's a small photo diary from my time in Chi, xx
ps: can i just say how much i miss shooting with a disposable 35mm camera? its so small that i can fit it into every bag, its a life savor when my canon isnt working  (womp womp)

Last Sunday was absolutely gorgeous weather, it hit up to the 60's, which feels like 100 in Buffalo in March. Took advantage of this day and wore a lighter dress & blouse. But the real excitement came with this fabulous denim trench coat from last spring. This lighter jacket was originally over 100$ & i waited til there was only one left and realized it got marked down SO MUCH. Snatched it up immediately, & it felt so good to be able to wear such a light coloured and feeling denim.

This week was definitely a maxi dress/skirt kind of week. Wore them 5 out of 7 days...ABSOLUTELY zero shame. If I could wear maxis all day everyday I would. Nothing compares to the cosiness of draping fabric :)

Blurb Book

I've always admired photographer's published books of their work. Once bounded in a book, with white backgrounds and subtle text, im absolutely in love. Coming back home from abroad I knew I wanted a better way to display the photos I took while traveling (other than facebook albums, which i did, duh.) All my photographs were taken on my dad's canon ae-1 program 35mm film camera from the '80's. Creating a Blurb Book was the perfect solution for me because they are so professional and still very creative. Being able to page through a hardcover book with MY photographs on every page was incredibly exciting and rewarding.  The feelings of "im not good enough" change drastically to "look what I can do!" Confidence & reassurance in one's SELF is key to expressing creativity.

My book (should) be available for preview here on the blurb website.
